Leading Adventures Into Creative Thinking - Working Through the Problem Solving Jungle!

Leading Adventures Into Creative Thinking - Working Through the Problem Solving Jungle!

How many times have you heard that nagging inner voice shouting, "there's no good solution to this problem"?

Have you ever entertained the thought that a particularly difficult situation was trying to take you to a dead end? How many times have you felt the frustration of thinking the problem pushing against you was one you simply could not untangle?

What did you feel like when you discovered you had exhausted all your possible options and yet, that hairy monster of a mountain still stood obstinately in your way? Whenever you encounter those kinds of really demanding problems, you may feel like you've been walking in the woods only to find yourself standing in front of the Frankenstein monster.

At times like these, the pressure of trying to solve such problems can stress you out and overwhelm you.

Be At Peace! All Is Not Lost!

With the help of some clever, yet innovative problem-solving methods you may be able to view your problem in a different way.

And that light you see might just be at the end of the tunnel which leads to an effective, realistic universe of solutions.

First of all, in the realm of creative thinking, you have to come to terms with the fact and open your mind up to the reality there could be more than one or two solutions to every single problem. And, you must act upon your belief and maintain your confidence in the fact that there may be solutions to problems others thought were insolvable.

Now, being equipped with this injection of optimism, you can steel your mind towards making serious attempts at being creative when sorting out and solving your dilemmas and problems.

Adventure One - Look Hard At The What!

It could be the reason why you are finding it difficult to solve your problems is because you have not really taken a seriously hard look at what your problem could actually be. One of the hardest tasks to complete is trying to identify or comprehend the essential elements of the problem.

This stage of the problem solving process means you must build a map or model showing or describing your problem's inner parts and examining how those factors do play an integral role in solving this problem.

The better you know how the problem works, and the better you can understand what elements your problem is composed of, then you will have established a solid foundation for solving your problem or dilemma.

Avoid the trap of simplifying the problem and minimizing your attention to what might be its causal factors. You should try to pinpoint any participants involved and discover what, if any, relationships exist between these parties.

Make note of the benefits you could gain as well as with those beneficial things you could be forced to give up because of the impact of this problem. At this point, you are in a more advantageous position to begin looking at the challenge in bite-sized (or in its more understandable) forms.

Adventure Two - Separate the Wheat from the Chaff!

Take note and analyze or think about all of the self-limiting constraints and self-deluding assumptions you have unquestioningly accepted at face value. The words, meanings and beliefs you have been implying to help you describe or understand the problem might show you the damaging effects of your erroneous assumptions.

At times these assumptions have the power to prevent your mind from perceiving another kind of outcome or these constraints will cloud your ability to appreciate all the possible pitfalls.

Your very first task, when searching for innovative solutions, is this: you must discover which assumptions, if any, might be valid, before you can deal with those essential assumptions which need to be addressed.

A great example of how your assumptions have the power to limit the creative or innovative thinking process is found in the story of a famous US auto maker.

This company devoted years to studying and trying to predict future or new market niches and customer preferences for what this company hoped to be a quantum leap for cars in their industry. What happened instead was what many industry experts called an abject failure in the company's market perceptions and sales revenue.

Like other companies, this firm could have blamed their problems on fickle customers or uninformed consumers. What this company did however was far more intelligent.

They analyzed and evaluated and questioned the assumptions they held prior to launching their market research studies and discovered their fundamental assumptions about customer preferences were completely incorrect.

Proceeding from the starting point of that realization, the company went back to the drawing board and designed a revolutionary car model more in line with customer tastes and came up with a truly winning design - in fact, that car is still considered to be one of the best and most popular models ever produced!

Innovative Leaders Must Become Savvy Experimentors

Innovative leaders who await to come across larger fields of opportunities should grab onto the innovation strategy followed by Edison.

Edison kept evaluating systems and interrogated why things worked the way they did just to delve into new ideas, reports Dr. Paul Israel of Rutgers' University, in New Jersey.

Dr. Israel, who serves as director and editor of the Thomas A. Edison Papers Project, explains how, "Some of Edison's discoveries came from experiments that were meant simply to increase his knowledge." [learn more by visiting the Edison Project website - http://edison.rutgers.edu ]

Edison's enthusiasm and curiosity paid off handsomely - how many other inventors have been as innovative or as clever as him?

Creative, innovative leaders instruct themselves to be curious - they learn the habits, behaviors and attitudes of Innovators like Columbus, Newton, Ben Franklin, Lewis & Clark, or Edison.

Leaders can expand the depth, breadth and sustainability of their innovations and capabilities by carrying out three things:

1) Commit to innovation strategies which favor and reward experimentation and exploration;

2) Pursue any and all causal factors lurking within the unexpected situation, problem or success;

3) Unmask whatever truths are hiding behind the imperfections, inconsistencies, incongruities, idiosyncrasies or impurities of life's daily problems.

Only by skillfully questioning, investigating and un-peeling the shortfalls and weaknesses in your organization, will you envision better, more reliable and efficient solutions to your tribulations.

Creatively leading and managing and innovative organization means

1) Digging into or evolving the probabilities;

2) Reaching up towards unheard-of revelations;

3) Holding onto the possibilities with all of your mind, faith and passion.

Are you positioned to lead your groups into the lands of creative, innovative and evolutionary promises? Be a leader who embraces new knowledge and ideas to probe new opportunity.

You can learn about Edison as that innovative leader who inspires, guides and enlightens us to obtain the jewels we need and illuminate our path to a prosperous tomorrow!

Business Innovations Strategy To Be Revealed

Business innovations which employ a strategy based upon revealing critical knowledge gaps, implications of reality and methods for querying data can count on being imaginative and remaining competitive far into the future. Innovative business strategies will improve leadership, marketing, IT, technology and business development performance when key players accept and understand the indicators, symbols and images of today's realities. The successful business innovation strategy is one where executives accurately, realistically and clearly see what their company is facing.

Business innovations never see the light of day without opening wide the window of today's reality. How can we create the competitive, innovative or imaginative business developments of tomorrow, if we don't understand the causes and effects of today? When executives pursue business strategies which focus on deciphering the gaps, implications and underlying meanings of their realities, they stand a better chance at being successful innovators.

Proof provided by the world's most innovative companies highlights the importance of precise information gathering and evaluation techniques. They employ imaginative business development strategies to save time and money. Their vision for a reliable innovation strategy looks like this: when you ask the correct types of questions and search for your answers in all the right places and relevant locations, you're sure to magnify your results.

The online edition of MSN Money magazine reported results of a Business Week survey on business innovations. German manufacturers, South Korean technology firms and American discount airlines were among the companies who performed favorably well when key staff were involved in shining their lights on internal and external realities.

"A primary reason why organizations become successful innovators," argues author and mentor for sustainable innovation programs, Bill Thomas, "is because they focus significant amounts of their attention on querying, evaluating and comprehending the indicators, symbols and images of their operational or environmental data."

On June 15, in Sydney, Australia, Mr. Thomas, will deliver a keynote and lead a workshop on innovative business strategies and a strategy model for sustainable innovations. According to Thomas, "imagination has supplanted knowledge as the key driver of competitive advantage."

He will discuss how using a systematic, structured and synergetic methodology enables executives to develop highly imaginative, productive and profitable organizations. A summary of his presentation is available at:

Business & Management Innovations - Today's Ticket To Organizational Success

The most successful innovation strategies reveal direction, instill discipline and strengthen developments throughout the organization. Competitive advantage depends upon the imaginative application of everyday knowledge. Innovative business leadership in marketing, IT, technology or new ventures demands using a proven strategy for unleashing the imagination of people.

May 22, 2006 - When business conditions demand continuous streams of competitive advantages, imaginative solutions or innovative strategies, it's time to search for, move towards and follow the avenues of new opportunities available through a comprehensive innovation strategy.

Leadership means challenging the "status quo", envisioning a desirable state of affairs and encouraging the hearts of people to continue moving on the road less traveled. Innovative marketing, IT, technology or business development strategies must reveal a clear direction, instill the discipline of facing reality and strengthen the capabilities of every resource.

Dr. Stephen Covey, author of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, describes how, "every human has four endowments- self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change. "

A study conducted by, Kevin Hassett, and Dr. Robert Shapiro, estimated the total value of ideas and innovations generated by US economy to average, "more than $5 trillion a year, roughly 42 percent of the country's gross domestic product and far more than any other nation's GDP."

On June 15, at The Innovation Summit, in Sydney, Australia, author and entrepreneur, Bill Thomas, will deliver a keynote and lead a workshop on a strategy model for sustainable innovations. "Imagination", according to Mr. Thomas, "has supplanted knowledge as the key driver of competitive advantage." He advocates using a systematic, structured and synergetic methodology for developing an innovative organization.

"The best, most successful innovation strategy", says Thomas, "involves looking inside and outside your marketing, IT, technology, business development or organizational boundaries to source and create innovative solutions." A summary of his presentation is available at:
